ஜ~§Poem Of The Day§~ஜ

O Ship of State

THOU, too, sail on, O Ship of State!
Sail on, O Union, strong and great!
Humanity with all its fears,
With all the hopes of future years,
Is hanging breathless on thy fate!
We know what Master laid thy keel,
What Workmen wrought thy ribs of steel,
Who made each mast, and sail, and rope,
What anvils rang, what hammers beat,
In what a forge and what a heat
Were shaped the anchors of thy hope!
Fear not each sudden sound and shock,
'Tis of the wave and not the rock;
'Tis but the flapping of the sail,
And not a rent made by the gale!
In spite of rock and tempest's roar,
In spite of false lights on the shore,
Sail on, nor fear to breast the sea!
Our hearts, our hopes, are all with thee.
Our hearts, our hopes, our prayers, our tears,
Our faith triumphant o'er our fears,
Are all with thee, -are all with thee!

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Fresh Tomato Salsa (because I have the munchies today)

Ingredients:
2-3 medium sized fresh tomatoes (from 1 lb to 1 1/2 lb), stems removed, finely diced (could just get the already chopped version from the can, strain and reserve the juice though)
1/2 red onion, finely diced
1 jalapeño chili pepper (stems, ribs, seeds removed), finely diced (again ... save some time, get the canned chopped ones)
1 serano chili pepper (stems, ribs, seeds removed), finely diced (canned chopped or leave out all together)
Juice of one lime
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: oregano and or cumin to taste

Preparation:
1 Start with chopping up 2 medium sized fresh tomatoes. Prepare the chilies. Be very careful while handling these hot peppers. If you can, avoid touching them with your hands. Use a fork to cut up the chilies over a small plate, or use a paper towel to protect your hands. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water after handling and avoid touching your eyes for several hours. Set aside some of the seeds from the peppers. If the salsa isn't hot enough, you can add a few for heat.

2 Combine all of the ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Taste. If the chilies make the salsa too hot, add some more chopped tomato. If not hot enough, carefully add a few of the seeds from the chilies, or add some ground cumin.

Let sit for an hour for the flavors to combine.

Makes approximately 3-4 cups.

Brightest Blessings,
~S~

Kathy, I'm the same way with Nora Roberts (AKA JD Robb). I've re-read hundreds of her books. :)

Antoine de Saint Exupéry's The Little Prince and Margery Williams' The Velveteen Rabbit. You can never outgrow those two.

I'll second the Stephen King comment.

Song was "Live Like Your Were Dying" The part that he sings "I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named fumanchu" I always thought it was "I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Little Banshee" :) Opps!

I could read "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott over and over again.

Yes! Proud Mary. Always thought it was Brown Mary. The funniest though was my best friend. That song "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root? She would sing 'simean whale, simean, whale.' WTH?

Tummy growling at the salsa.

Am feeling very patriotic after that glimpse into your rant plus the wonderful poem!

And I always messed up, "Dust on the Bottle" by David Lee Murphy. I always thought it was "Dust on the Bible." Two VERY different subjects, huh? But, it still made sense when I sang the chorus that way--"Don't let it fool ya, about what's inside..." I thought it worked anyway!

SAWEET MOM-A-LICIOUS!!! I'm posting it to my reader right now!!!

Sassy, I'm watching Glen Beck right now, I'm sure I'll work up a rant sooner or later again. This so called 'stimulus package' is literally giving me an ulcer. I'm truly fearful of what will happen to our country if it is passed.

All of the song lyrics stuff was fun. That was a good question of the day!!!
