The Looky-Loos

On His Blindness

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

So today, I went and got my nails done, and my hair cut. It was a real whirlwind GIRL day for me. I also hit the bookstore. I love bookstore day. Got three new books, the new In Death, JD Robb Book, a book on herbal remedies, and a book titled White Witch Black Curse a murder mystery.

I was in chat last night. I met a couple of really fookin' funny people. My stomach hurts a bit today from laughing so much last night. I love chat nights like that.

Tomorrow ... I'll post some photos of my place, so you can see how an AWESOME chicky like me lives. WOOT!

That's all my news ... good times ... on with the circus train ...

ஜ~§The Question Of The Day§~ஜ

If you had to give up one indulgence for 40 days, what would it be?

I don't celebrate lent with my spiritual path, but if I had to give something up that would be difficult for me ... I would say it would have to be chat. That would be tough. I realized if I gave up chat, I could probably give up wine too.

Peripatetic

PRONUNCIATION:
(per-uh-puh-TET-ik)

MEANING:
adjective:
1. Moving or traveling from place to place.
2. Of or related to walking, moving, or traveling.
3. Of or related to Aristotle: his philosophy or his teaching method of conducting discussions while walking about.
noun:
1. An itinerant
2. A follower of Aristotle.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin peripateticus, from Greek peripatetikos, from peripatein (to walk about, to discourse while pacing as did Aristotle), from peri- (around) + patein (to walk). Ultimately from the Indo-European root pent- (to tread) that also gave us words such as English find, Dutch pad (path), Hindi path (path), French pont (bridge), and Russian sputnik (traveling companion).

USAGE:
"With his back to goal in a crowded space, the peripatetic Frenchman [Nicolas Anelka] deftly chipped the ball over his shoulder, and into the net for the equalizer."

ஜ~§Poem Of The Day§~ஜ

On His Blindness

When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide
Lodg'd with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide,
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies: "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts: who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly; thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait."

Smoked Salmon Bisque Simply Recipes

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
1 cups thinly sliced leeks
1/2 chopped yellow onion
1 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
1 Tbsp minced garlic
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 quart (32 oz) clam juice
3/4 pounds salmon fillet, chopped 1/2 inch cubes
2 to 4 ounces smoked salmon (depending on how strong a smoked flavor you want, and how strongly smoked the salmon is), chopped
2 cups canned or stewed tomatoes
2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
1 cup cream
1 cup milk
Pinch black pepper
Pinch crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (optional)
Salt to taste

Preparation:
1 Melt butter in a medium stockpot over medium heat. Add onion, leeks, mushrooms, garlic and cook until onions are translucent and mushrooms have given up their moisture (7 to 10 minutes).

2 Add the clam juice, smoked salmon, tomatoes (break up tomatoes while putting them in the soup), parsley, cilantro, dill, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and Old Bay seasoning; cook until heated through.

3 Put flour into a separate bowl. Slowly add the milk, beating with a wire whisk until smooth. Mix in the cream. Stir cream flour mixture into the soup. Stir in fresh salmon and simmer for 5 more minutes. If you want, use an immersion blender to purée the soup, or pour some or all of the soup into a standing blender and purée. Salt to taste.

Garnish with fresh dill. Serves 5-6.

Brightest Blessings,
~S~
