Childhood

Okay, so oddly enough my last post is sort of blurring into this one. Bear in mind with my wonky hours I may not get days or times correct in this storyline.

On Saturday, my grandmother called me and asked me to pick her up some broth and bring it over to her place. It seems she'd had the flu since Monday (the 16th). She'd actually been barely eating since Monday and we were into Saturday already. She really didn't look good when I saw her, and I mentioned that she should probably go see the doctor, so we agreed, she'd call first thing Monday morning (the 23rd). I got off work on Monday morning and at about 8am called her to see how she was doing. Not so well she said, and said that she'd call the doc and schedule an appt. I went to sleep for about 3 1/2 hours. I called her back, when I got up, to see if she'd made the appointment. She hadn't but had decided she should probably go to the hospital. I rushed right over there to take her. So I got there, called her doc, he agreed hospital was best. So I scooped her up and took her to emergency. We got there at about 2pm and she was in one of the emergency rooms by 3pm. They hooked her up to fluids, as the determination was that she was dehydrated. In addition to that issue another problem had to be addressed. The night before, while getting out of bed, she was so weak she couldn't help but fall. She fell and conked her head on the marble nightstand, as well as bruising her shoulder and back going down. What a mess. Luckily, she hadn't been taking her cumadin like she should have, or she would have been in worse shape. She's now being hydrated and is resting comfortably overnight.

My parents weren't in town. I was available (as usual ... remember guys? ... I'm the ROCK, until I'm not!) So I took care of her until their flight landed today. They headed out to the hospital from the airport and relieved me, allowing me to go home for a good hour long nap. (Thank heavens for small favors) I felt bad about this though, because they'd been travelling all day long and I knew they were tired too. But, not one to look a gift horse and whatnot I took them up on it, I was exhausted!

Long story short ... the ROCK came through, I didn't panic, I didn't flutter, I didn't have a breakdown, I didn't cry, I soothed my gramma when SHE cried. I didn't go crazy-eyed at anyone. I'm even still feeling perfectly lucid! (although that may just be the sleep deprivation)

I'd like to know why it is I just seem to scare all the boys away. Perhaps I'm TOO independent? I certainly can't be too bloody NEEDY!!! BAH and GRRR!

Maybe I should look into one of those dating sights. I believe Charmaine at Middle Aged Dating had encouraged us to write up our own profile at one time. I'll give that a shot now. Here goes:

BBW seeking YHM (Young Hot Male) for naughty tryst in late afternoon sun-shaded glade. Must be tall dark and handsome. I am a sweet, blue-eyed, red-head that scares men into running like jack-rabbits. This is due to the fact that I am an independent, strong, funny, kind, supportive (as in I'll support you, since you don't feel like working) and caring woman. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, fetching beers, propping feet up on pillows, giving massages and doing all the household chores, including but not limited to taking out garbage and mowing the lawn. Don't get your hopes too high up, as eventually you will run screaming from those traits, even though they'll be an exact match to what you're 'searching' for in a woman. I do hope to meet you very soon and look forward to another notch on my lunacy belt!!!

cheers!

So what do you all think? They're going to come-a-runnin, aren't they? Right? I thought so!

(hah Charmaine ... I bet you didnt think I'd ever get around to doing this eh? heh!)

ஜ~§The Question Of The Day§~ஜ

If you knew that a friend's significant other was cheating on him or her, would you tell your friend the truth or keep it to yourself?

Oh hell ... I'd tell them ... misery loves company right? (I might be pms'ing ... TMI? Really? Ya think?)

ஜ~§The Word Of The Day§~ஜ

Snake Eyes

PRONUNCIATION:
(snayk aaiz)

MEANING:
noun: A throw of two ones with a pair of dice. Since this is the lowest possible score, by extension the term is also used to refer to bad luck.

ETYMOLOGY:
Either from the apparent resemblance of such a throw to a snake's eyes, or from the association of snakes with treachery. The origin of the word craps, where this term is often used, is also derived from an animal: crab. A synonym of today's term is ambsace.

USAGE:
"Detroit's bet on big trucks and sport-utility vehicles has turned snake eyes."

ஜ~§Poem Of The Day§~ஜ

Childhood

Childhood, sweet and sunny childhood,
With its careless, thoughtless air,
Like the verdant, tangled wildwood,
Wants the training hand of care.

See it springing all around us --
Glad to know, and quick to learn;
Asking questions that confound us;
Teaching lessons in its turn.

Who loves not its joyous revel,
Leaping lightly on the lawn,
Up the knoll, along the level,
Free and graceful as a fawn?

Let it revel; it is nature
Giving to the little dears
Strength of limb, and healthful features,
For the toil of coming years.

He who checks a child with terror,
Stops its play, and stills its song,
Not alone commits an error,
But a great and moral wrong.

Give it play, and never fear it --
Active life is no defect;
Never, never break its spirit --
Curb it only to direct.

Would you dam the flowing river,
Thinking it would cease to flow?
Onward it must go forever --
Better teach it where to go.

Childhood is a fountain welling,
Trace its channel in the sand,
And its currents, spreading, swelling,
Will revive the withered land.

Childhood is the vernal season;
Trim and train the tender shoot;
Love is to the coming reason,
As the blossom to the fruit.

Tender twigs are bent and folded --
Art to nature beauty lends;
Childhood easily is moulded;
Manhood breaks, but seldom bends.

ஜ~§Recipe of the Day§~ஜ

Ham and Asparagus Quiche

Ingredients:
1/2 recipe pie dough (see Pâte Brisée recipe)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 medium shallots, thinly sliced
10 ounces asparagus spears, cut on the diagonal into 1-inch long pieces
1/2 pound ham, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
Freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 large eggs
6 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated (1 1/2 cups)

Preparation:
1 On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12-inch circle. Fit into a 10-by-1 1/2-inch round tart pan (with or without a removable bottom), pressing dough into corners. Transfer to freezer to chill for 30 minutes.

2 Preheat oven to 350°. Line pastry with parchment paper, wax paper, or aluminum foil, pressing into the corners and edges. Fill at least two-thirds with baking weights - dried beans, rice, or aluminum pie weights. Bake first for 15 minutes, remove from oven and let cool a few minutes. Carefully remove parchment paper and weights. Poke the bottom of the pie pan with the tongs of a fork and return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes or until lightly golden. (Fork holes are for any air to escape.) Transfer to a wire rack to cool while making filling.

3 Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Add shallots, and cook, stirring, until translucent but not brown, about 1 minute. Add asparagus. Cook, stirring frequently, until asparagus are just cooked (al dente), slightly browned, firm, not mushy, 8 to 10 minutes.

4 Increase oven temperature to 375°F. Place tart pan on a baking sheet to catch any run-off there might be (especially if you are using a pan with a removable bottom.) Sprinkle half the cheese evenly over the bottom of the crust. Spread asparagus and ham over the cheese and then top with remaining cheese. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, cream, and eggs. Season with fresh ground pepper. Pour over cheese. Transfer to oven, and bake until just set in the center, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Enjoy!

Brightest Blessings,
~Surry~

Yes, yes, and more yes for your super great dating site entry! I think it is perfect.

I don't know that I could tell the friend about the cheating S.O. Sometimes things don't work out as expected, and then the messenger gets "killed." I would, however, bust up on the perp's ass and warn them that if THEY don't come clean, I'm outing them.

Yummers on the recipe!

Thank God you were there for your grandma! OMG that could have been so bad :( You're awesome ♥ and I love that ad lmao they'll be knocking your door down before you know it ;) Ugh @ your question though. I would definitely talk to the cheater and find out if it was true or not. I think I probably would tell my friend if it was true. I don't like cheaters :o

Oh no you are NOT supporting anyone. ha ha. If you log onto plentyoffish.com then search for me (my name is charming_mary) you will see my dating ad.

Everyone thinks it sucks.

I have a new theory. I think this "I'm independent and don't need you for anything" mentality is screwing us over. I think we subtly sent out that signal to the universe. Since men love to be needed we might be shooting ourselves in the foot. groan.

But hilarious ad. Now, go and re-write mine. Thank you.

Oh! I can very much relate! Remember my Granny blogs? Let me tell you, your Grandma is VERy, VERY lucky that she had not taken THAT MEDICATION... A fall like that ... would have been fatal. That medication is a miracle in that it can save someone from Blood clots but it can cause really bad bleeding. Thank you for being there for your grandma! Dehydration is very serious in everyone but especially the elderly. I work in this field and love them! Thanks
