The Looky-Loos

Ozymandias

I really don't have any news. I'm trying to get used to my new overnight schedule, the first day went alright, and tonight's okay. I suppose it could be worse, I could be WAKING UP at 7am. He he he. I just plain don't like 7am coming or going though.

I'm still chatting with those 'boys' that I had mentioned several weeks ago. So that's same ol same ol.

Ooh ... Nice thing about working overnights, this man that works in my building works nearly the same shift, he used to work in my department and I had a HUGE crush on him. He asked me to go out to breakfast with him on Thursday morning. (I can call that a date right? He doesn't think it's a date, but that doesn't matter, right? right? AM I RIGHT LADIES? No? Just delusional. Okay!) WOOT anyway!

I can't remember if I told ya'll what my nephew said a few days ago, but it was hilarious, and likely bares repeating (I repeat myself a lot). My SIL related this to everyone at my birthday dinner.

(My Bro and SIL are in the process of finishing their basement. Their plan is to move the furniture from their living room, to the basement and getting all new furniture for the living room.)

My nephew said to his mama:

"You know ... mom, when we get that upstairs finished (he says upstairs for downstairs or he used to ... so just roll with it people, cause that's uber cute too!) and then we move all this stuff down there, it's called 'recycling'"

Freaking adorable huh?

~~

AND of course a little humor to brighten our day.

~~

A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students. 'Human beings are the only animals that stutter,' she says.

A little girl raises her hand. 'I had a kitty-cat who stuttered.'

The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident.

'Well,' she began, 'I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we
knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!'

'That must've been scary,' said the teacher.

'It sure was,' said the little girl. 'My kitty raised her back, went Sssss, Sssss, Sssss' and before she could say 'Shit,' the
Rottweiler ate her!'

The teacher had to leave the room.

Remind me tomorrow, to tell you all about a very strange dream that I had.

ஜ~§The Question Of The Day§~ஜ

When you're stuck in a boring class or meeting, what's your favorite way to keep yourself entertained (or at least from falling asleep)?

I interject loudly and off key every so often. I dare to ask questions. That always throws the dullards off, and keeps everyone else awake too. In addtion, when I ask a question ... I bounce in my chair and make those .. OOH OOH OOH sounds, while flailing my hand in the air wildly. Yeah ... that perks me right up.

Subintelligitur

PRONUNCIATION:
(sub-in-tuh-LIJ-it-uhr)

MEANING:
noun: Something that is not stated but understood.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin sub- (below) + intelligere (to understand, literally, to choose between), from inter- (between) + legere (to choose, collect, read). Ultimately from the Indo-European root leg- (to collect) that is also the source of lexicon, lesson, lecture, legible, legal, and select.

USAGE:
"We pray to God as a Person, as a larger self; but there must always be a subintelligitur that He is not a Person. Our forms of worship, public and private, imply some interference with the course of nature."

ஜ~§What I'm Reading§~ஜ

I've finished up Promises in Death by JD Robb, btw ... I highly recommend the book. While you don't have to start at the beginning of the series to get what's going on, I recommend doing that as well. Trust me, you'll be hooked for LIFE!

Tonight is: Reaper and Trust Me. It seems like there should be more. I'll double check on that one. Hee

ஜ~§Poem Of The Day§~ஜ

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: `Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear --
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.'

Percy Bysshe Shelley

ஜ~§Recipe of the Day§~ஜ

Chicken w/ Tomatoes and Olives

(no food piccie today ... so sorry :( )

Ingredients:
2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
3 plum tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1/2 cup black olives, halved
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
6 cloves garlic, pressed
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 (750 milliliter) bottle dry white wine

Preparation:
Place chicken breasts between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Using a meat tenderizing hammer (come on ya'll, ya know you can use a big pan too!!! Good for working out any frustrations! Bedside Tales you might benefit from this, just imagine the X's face!!!), pound each breast to about 1/2 inch thick.

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Briefly cook chicken breasts in oil, turning to lightly brown both sides. Add garlic and rosemary, and continue cooking until garlic is soft. Pour wine into pan, and cover pan with lid. Bring to a boil, and simmer for about 5 minutes.

Add tomatoes and olives to the pan; continue cooking, covered, for approximately 10 minutes
Yield: 2 servings (multiply ingredients as needed for larger meals)

Brightest Blessings,
~S~

It's a date.

I draw hearts all over my paper and color them in.

I LOVE J.D. Robb, but I'm so far behind that I'm scared to start again!

I'm in an in-between books dead zone. Can't seem to get into anything right now. Maybe my brain just needs a break.

I get up at 6:30 AM M-F and I hate it. Every day is a fight to get out of bed in time to get to work. Bleh.

Oh, and I think breakfast is totally a date. Whether he knows it or not. But I suspect he does. :-) Good luck!
