F2: Manchego Cheese and Garlic Dogs

Heya folks! It looks as though I'm back ... and with the new format too, no more poetry and rather than listing what I'm reading or watching, I'll just speak about those topics randomly, when something interesting comes up! WEET! I don't know where I'm going to get my blog titles from though, as I previously used the poem's title for it. I'll think of something, I suppose. (any suggestions?)

As I've said in the last couple of posts, I'm re-reading the HP series at least up to HP and The Half Blood Prince, as that's the next movie to come out in theaters. Generally my neice and I go see the Harry Potter movie in the theater on the day it comes out, I will have Thursdays and Friday's off for the next long while, as I posted a bid on a job, and therefor she and I will be able to see HP in the theater when it comes out in July. YAY. I need to set myself a reminder to send her a FB comment to let her know that we'll be able to hit the movie on opening night. WHOOEEE!

Now ... folksies ... today is FRIDAY ... and that means ... (drumroll) FRIDAY'S FEAST!!!

Affectionately known as F2! (Not to be confused with Formula 1 racing!)

Since I brought up the movie theater. I have to say that when I go see HP, I WILL be forgoing the requirements of my 6WBM diet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE movie theater popcorn and hotdogs. I don't know why, there's just something awesome about it. (Likely it's the amount of greasy yummy fatty fats) I'm not going to feel guilty about this though, as I rarely go to the theater anyway. What are your favorite movie theater eats? I'm not a huge candy person, actually I don't care much for candy, ice cream, cake, or chocolate. I know ... tis CRAYZEE! However, there ya have it, candy is out for me at the theater, give me the savory/salty and I'm good to go! This is also one of the reasons I don't post a lot of dessert recipes. (Sorry folksies, but Noble Pig posts alot of cookies and cakes n stuff and you should head over there for a peek!)

Oy ... and while this isn't a 'Surry food story' I have come across a blogsite that fascinates me to no end, and I couldn't really even say why. Essentially it's a bunch of people that take pictures of the food they had for lunch on a daily basis. I think about five people post there right now, but it's interesting how eclectic their tastes are. So ... if you're interested in how the other half eats lunch take a look at Look at My Lunch!

I think that's all the foody stuff I have today. Let's see if I can't find a funny for ya'll, from my email.

Here ya go!!!

Do you know what happened 159 years ago this Fall... back in 1850?

California became a state.
The people had no electricity.
The state had no money.
Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
There were gunfights in the streets.
So basically, nothing has changed except the women had real boobs and the men didn't hold hands.
He he he!!!

ஜ~§Quote of the Day§~ஜ

A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.
Henry David Thoreau

Manchego Cheese and Garlic Dogs

(My apologies to you vegan/vegetarians out there, I'll try to do better about being more eclectic and including ya'll in these recipes! MUAH)

Ingredients:

Relish:
2 large heads of garlic, top 1/2 inch cut off
5 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1/2 cup diced drained roasted red peppers from jar
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Coarse kosher salt

Hot dogs:
6 grilled hot dog buns or 2 1/2-inch-wide pieces ciabatta or pain rustique, cut to length of hot dogs and split lengthwise
6 grilled all-beef hot dogs
2 ounces Manchego cheese,* grated
Sherry wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar

Preparation:

For relish:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Place each head of garlic, cut side up, in center of square of foil; drizzle each with 1 teaspoon oil. Enclose garlic in foil. Place packets on oven rack; roast until garlic is tender, about 45 minutes. Open packets; cool 15 minutes.

Squeeze garlic cloves into small bowl. Mash enough roasted garlic to measure 1/4 cup (reserve remaining garlic for another use). Transfer 1/4 cup mashed garlic to bowl. Mix in 3 teaspoons oil, red peppers, and parsley. Season with coarse salt and pepper.

For hot dogs:
Arrange buns on plates. Top each with grilled hot dog, then cheese, garlic relish, and drizzle of vinegar.

* A Spanish cheese made from sheep’s milk; available at some supermarkets and at specialty foods stores.

Brightest Blessings,
~Surry~

My last meal would have to include a corn dog and a cheesy gordita crunch!

Movie theater popcorn is my favorite food in the whole world. Since I only go to movies about once every 5 years (trying to justify the horrific amount I pay for cable), I think I deserve it.

I'm just now getting caught up on your blog (so I apologize if my comments are scarcer than usual)!

I don't really dig the movie theater food thing... not sure why. When I was a teenager we all used to sneak in burgers and whatnot from other places (okay, okay, and usually alcohol too, haha), and now it seems like if Mike and I go out we end up at a restaurant first. So who knows, I might be missing out!

Also, the hot dog recipe looks so. freaking. yummy. :-)

Mmm… garlic. What could be better than garlic hot dogs. I'll be adding this post to my list for next weeks feast.

Thank you for joining in the feast.
