So ... my two arrests. I've been told these stories would be wonderful blog-fodder. So, here goes.

The first time I was arrested, some friends and I had gone out to celebrate one of their 21st birthdays, it was a Monday and we were just going out for the hour. I'd had one beer and everyone else had a birthday shot with her. (I was designated driver) On my way home after dropping the girls off, I was at a red light. (at the time I was driving a Mercury Tracer) At the light I was stopped alongside a Ford Escort. For those of you that don't know the Escort and the Tracer had the EXACT same engines. I know this, because sometimes I'm a bit of a car snob. Anyway ... the light changed and we both took off. Soon after the flashing lights were in my rearview mirror. The police claimed that the Ford an I were racing. HAH! At the time I was 4' 11" (I'm still that tall) and about 95lbs. I'm sure I looked like a big bad racing machine, and in my Mercury Tracer no less!!! Needless to say, I was hauled off to jail for DUI. Lost my license for 3 months. Got it back, never drove after a single drink again!!!

My second arrest was a little more convoluted than that. Keep in mind, for 11 years I hadn't had an accident, a speeding ticket, or a parking ticket. However, when I started working downtown, I would start getting parking tickets now and again. I had thought that I had paid them all. That will come up later. So I had gotten a ticket for driving with expired tags (I always forget those buggers), and had to go to court. They had suspended my license until my court date. So I went to court ... showed that I had tagged my car, paid the fine, they failed to mention that I had to go get a new license. (they hadn't physically taken mine from me) So several months later, I was pulled over for speeding. (I rarely ever speed, but my grandmother had had a fainting spell at her hair salon, so I was on my way over there to pick her up, I was going about 10 over the limit) It was then I was informed that my license was still under suspension. I couldn't drive my car anywhere from there, I had to have someone come get me and my car. It was a huge pain. I had a court date and accidentally missed it. I'd put it down wrong in my blackberry. So the local PD came and got me at my apartment, turns out they'd issued a bench warrant, YAY. Thus arrest number 2. Now ... I'm all clear on that. Everything's great and all my fines are paid and I'll be looking forward to another 11 years or so of awesome driving and whatnot.

In regards to the parking tickets, after the fiasco with the bench warrant and such, my SUV got towed out of a metered spot downtown. I called to find out that I had 8 outstanding parking tickets, I swear I didn't have that many issued to me ... but alas ... more fines and such. What a pain!!!

So, those are my two arrests. Sounds like good times right?

Still no word from Jon, the last time he didn't talk to me for several days, he said he was scared that he thought I would be angry with him for the absence. Well, at the time, I wasn't really angry, I was just concerned about him. I was thinking maybe something had happened. Now .. I'm still pissed about this one. I've deleted everything I have of him, emails, phone numbers, addresses. Everything! Now I couldn't call him if I wanted to. I'll be cancelling my vacation days and moving on. It kind of makes me sad though, I miss him and I really love the guy. I do want to say in fairness to him, that he has had a lot on his plate lately, a move, a new job, working with his father, and more responsibility. I realize that I just didn't fit into this new life of his for the moment. I just wish he would have talked to me about it all. I would have had compassion and understanding for the situation. I guess he just didn't get that though.

Moving on ...

Tonight is: The Last Templar and Army Wives. (I think that AW is a re-run but my DVR is recording it anyway, I'll keep it recording just in case it's new.) I'm really looking forward to The Last Templar, I haven't read the book, but I've been meaning to.

Eggpland and Spinach Lasagne Spirals

Ingredients:
3 pounds plum tomatoes, halved lengthwise
5 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
2 pounds Asian or baby Italian eggplants, halved crosswise, then cut lengthwise into slices slightly less than 1/4 inch thick
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
10 ounces baby spinach
1 pound ricotta (preferably fresh)
1 large egg yolk, lightly beaten
1/2 cup finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
8 dried lasagne noodles (not no-boil)

Preparation:
Roast tomatoes for sauce: Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Toss tomatoes with 3 tablespoons oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and arrange, cut sides up, in 1 layer in 2 oiled glass or ceramic shallow baking dishes. Roast tomatoes in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching position of dishes halfway through baking, until skins are wrinkled and beginning to brown, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool slightly in baking dishes on racks.

Roast eggplant for lasagne: Toss eggplant slices with oil, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and arrange in 1 layer on 2 oiled baking sheets. Bake in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching position of sheets halfway through baking and turning slices over once, until tender, 12 to 14 minutes.

Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F.

Finish tomato sauce: When tomatoes are cool enough to handle, peel off skin and discard. Puree tomatoes with their juices in a blender, pulsing until almost smooth.

Cook onion and garlic in 2 tablespoons oil in a 3- to 4-quart heavy saucepan over moderate heat, stirring, until golden, about 10 minutes. Stir in tomato puree, water, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and simmer, partially covered, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and reduced to about 4 cups, about 15 minutes. Stir in basil.

Make filling and assemble lasagne: While sauce is simmering, cook spinach in a 3- to 4-quart pot of boiling salted water, uncovered, 1 minute, then drain in a colander. When cool enough to handle, squeeze any excess water from spinach and coarsely chop. Stir together ricotta, yolk, spinach, parmesan, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper until combined well.

Cook lasagne noodles in a 6- to 8-quart pot of boiling salted water, stirring occasionally, until tender. Drain noodles in a colander and rinse under cold running water.

Spoon 2 cups tomato sauce into a 13- by 9-inch glass baking dish (or other 3-quart shallow baking dish). Lay out 4 lasagna noodles on a work surface, then spread 1/3 cup filling evenly over each noodle and cover with eggplant slices in 1 layer. Roll up each and arrange spirals, seam sides down and without touching, over sauce in dish, then make 4 more rolls and arrange in dish. Brush noodles with water, then spoon some sauce down middle of rolls and cover dish tightly with foil.
Bake in middle of oven until heated through, about 20 minutes. Heat remaining tomato sauce and serve on the side.

(I would cut out some of these steps and use a favorite jarred sauce)

Yield: 4 servings

Brightest Blessings,
~S~

I'd freak out if I get arrested!! I'm glad both occasions were something minor.. And I'm sorry to hear about your man - maybe all he needs is the time to be alone and think what he's had. You're so courageous to delete him (email, phone#, etc) - damn, that takes somes courage!!

Love your blog!!!
